CiviCRM - Wed, 10/31/2018 - 10:56

This month, British Columbians (in Canada) will be voting on whether to adopt proportional representation (PR) when electing their provincial representatives. If they do, they'll be the first province in Canada to do so.

Fair Vote Canada has been advocating for proportional representation in Canada's voting systems for more than 10 years, and I've been working with them for almost as long, using CiviCRM.

CiviCRM Establishment Committee Elections Update

CiviCRM - Thu, 10/25/2018 - 10:07

The first annual CiviCRM Governance Summit was held in New Jersey, USA on 25/26 September 2018, attended by 29 people - core team, partners, users and service providers from around the globe.

The major decision of the summit was to create a representative body to help guide the CiviCRM project.  An outline of the structure was produced, but there are many details yet to be resolved so the secondary decision was to create an interim committee, called the Establishment Committee, for the purpose of defining the eventual structure.

Display CiviCRM forms on any web site anywhere

CiviCRM - Wed, 10/24/2018 - 10:19

Powerbase (the Progressive Technology Project's hosted CiviCRM program) provides a Drupal site for your CiviCRM database, but, even though it's in Drupal, you can't use it for your web site. Your web site must be hosted elsewhere. This approach is becoming increasingly popular as organizations move from Drupal, Wordpress and Joomla to new web site platforms, or simply don't want their web site vulnerabilities to lead to a compromise of their database.

UK CiviSprint as a newbie

CiviCRM - Fri, 10/19/2018 - 03:41

I didn’t hide the fact that I’d been feeling daunted by the prospect of the Sprint. Knowing that I’d be the least techie by some way even amongst the non-devs, I was also acutely aware of being a newbie to the community - after a year and a half as a CiviCRM user, I’d only had five weeks of working with Rose Lanigan and learning the basics of implementation. But I needn’t have worried, soon realising that:

a)       In any group, someone has to be the least technical. It’s an opportunity to learn and to bring a different perspective.

Give your users customised automated tours of civicrm

CiviCRM - Tue, 10/02/2018 - 18:57

The Civi Summit was a great event - full of lots of nice surprises. One that stands out for me was that what started out as some wishful thinking - namely having the ability to provide on-page tours/tutorials - ended up with us being able to beta test a 'proof of concept' before we left.

While some amongst us (ahem) were sampling the whiskey and fine IPAs late in the evening along to the strumming of the musically-able folk, others remained focussed on their laptops - and in Coleman's case this meant getting us a working prototype of a tour/tutorial system for civi pages.
